Sooty made his show ring debut at the SCOA Futurity and placed 3rd in the 12-18 month class at the 2003 SCOA National Specialty Futurity June 3, 2003 under judge Beverly Griffith (Sarea). Not bad for his first time on a leash! Two days later, he also won the novice class under judge Sharon Kinney (Issibaa). The next weekend Sooty went out and got his JC title.

Sooty finished his championship in October 2005, the same weekend as his brother Hoss.
